Consumer Directed Choices (CDChoices) is proud to announce its selection as Connecticut’s regional provider for administering self-directed Respite Care Programs, an important milestone that marks a new chapter in the organization’s 25-year history of advancing independence, dignity, and choice in care.
Recognized for its leadership in self-directed home care services in New York State, CDChoices now brings its proven expertise, trusted administrative infrastructure, and person-centered approach to individuals and families across Connecticut. This expansion reflects growing confidence in CDChoices’ ability to empower caregivers and participants through flexible, self-directed solutions that support autonomy, stability, and quality of life.
Through a strategic partnership with the Eastern, North Central, and Western Connecticut Area Agencies on Aging (ECAAA, NCAAA, and WCAAA), CDChoices will administer caregiver-directed care fiscal intermediary services under two core programs: the National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) and the Connecticut Statewide Respite Care Program (CSRCP). This partnership integrates CDChoices’ administrative and self-direction infrastructure with the Area Agencies on Aging’s regional leadership to deliver a cohesive, statewide approach to respite care.
Together, these programs give caregivers both essential breaks and ongoing support, helping them care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and other irreversible dementias, such as Parkinson’s disease, Lewy Body dementia, Huntington’s disease, and Pick’s disease.
The National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) offers caregivers access to valuable information, assistance, respite care, and supplemental services designed to reduce the physical, emotional, and financial strain associated with caregiving. These services help caregivers remain informed, supported, and connected to resources within their communities.
The Connecticut Statewide Respite Care Program (CSRCP) focuses on reducing caregiver stress while supporting individuals living with dementia. Through NFCSP and CSRCP, families may choose traditional agency-delivered services or select CDChoices’ caregiver-directed care model, which allows them to hire a trusted individual to provide care and support based on their unique needs and preferences.
By expanding its services into Connecticut, CDChoices reaffirms its mission to empower individuals and their families to direct their own care while providing person-centered solutions that strengthen families and communities. This milestone further enables the organization to support caregivers, foster independence, and help individuals live safely, confidently, and on their own terms.
